God who sees me

Hello, friends. Today’s post is the prayer I promised yesterday. It flows from the same train of thought as “Naked”, which started directly after taking communion last Sunday. If anybody is reading this site for the first time, you might find it helpful to read both pieces, as they really belong together.

God who sees me

You say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.’ But you do not realise that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked (Revelation 3:17).

You, Lord, know my folly; my guilt is not hidden from you (Psalm 69:5).

She gave this name to the Lord who spoke to her: “You are the God who sees me” (Genesis 16:13).

Father,
You see me,
And you know all about me.

As I limp towards your kingdom,
Full of shame,
You watch over me
Every step of the way.

You see me just as I am,
Yet still you love me.

You see my wretched history
Of anxiety and depression;

My pitiful fear
Of angry people;

My spiritual poverty
And barrenness;

My wilful blindness
And ignorance;

My vulnerable nakedness
And all my sins.

Father,
You see me,
And you know all about me.

Thank you for loving me,
And for watching over me
Every step of the way,
As I limp towards your kingdom.

In Jesus’ precious name,
Amen.
