Hello, readers. Today’s blog is more of a meditation than a prayer. It’s a musing on our expectations of others, and on what makes relationships work well.
Secrets of happiness
- “In your anger do not sin”: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry
(Ephesians 4:26; NIV). - “Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good – except God alone”
(Luke 18:19; NIV).
The secret of a happy relationship
Is to appreciate the good things
About your partner,
Praising them for their achievements
And thanking them for every kindness.
When you hurt your partner,
Apologise immediately,
Admitting your fault in full,
And asking their forgiveness.
When your partner hurts you,
Be honest and direct with them,
Speaking the truth with love.
Be sure to talk your anger through,
Resolving it before the sun goes down,
And forgiving quickly.
Always remember that your partner isn’t perfect,
Any more than you are perfect.
Strive to accept them as they are
For no one can give you
Everything you want,
And it’s not their responsibility
To fulfil all your expectations.
Be mindful that your partner has
Thoughts, desires and opinions,
Hopes and fears,
Strengths and weaknesses of their own –
Just as you do.
So celebrate your differences,
And support each other,
For as long as your lives come together.
