Christmas

Hello everyone. This meditation has taken me a couple of days to write, and it might still change a bit more. I’m not a kill-joy, but I don’t join in with any part of our modern consumer Christmas. Perhaps this will explain why…

Christmas

  • “They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’  “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for  me’ (Matthew 25:44-45; NIV).
  • You say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.’ But you do not realise that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked (Revelation 3:17).
  • She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them (Luke 2:7; NIV).

Father,
It’s Christmas,
When we celebrate the birth
Of your dear Son.

You watch us
Exchanging stuff we don’t need,
Swallowing TV pap,
And worshipping
At the shrine of celebrity.

You see us stuffing ourselves
With factory-processed junk,
Swilling it down with extra booze,
And forgetting those who are hungry,
Thirsty, lonely,
Naked, sick,
Or in prison.

It never crosses our minds
That to you we are all
Wretched, pitiful and poor,
Blind and naked –
Just as your Son was
On the day of his birth.
