Take up your cross

Hi, everyone. Whilst yesterday’s blog explored a couple of verses from the Old Testament from a personal perspective, today’s considers a line from the New Testament in a similar way…

Take up your cross

Then he said to them all, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me” (Luke 9:23; NIV).

Lord,
I am your disciple,
Ready to deny myself,
Take up my cross each day,
And follow you.

But what does this mean for me,
In practice?

Ah, I see…

Denying myself
Means putting you first
At all times,
With nothing held back;

Taking up my cross
Means accepting my lot,
And living with it
To the best of my ability;

And following you
Means using all I have experienced,
And all I have learned,
To help me offer love,
Understanding and support
To those who suffer.

Lord,
Please help me to deny myself,
Take up my cross each day,
And follow you.

I ask this in your holy name,
Amen.
