Hi, everyone. Whilst yesterday’s blog explored a couple of verses from the Old Testament from a personal perspective, today’s considers a line from the New Testament in a similar way…
Take up your cross
* Then he said to them all, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me” (Luke 9:23; NIV).
Lord,
I am your disciple,
Ready to deny myself,
Take up my cross each day,
And follow you.
But what does this mean for me,
In practice?
Ah, I see…
Denying myself
Means putting you first
At all times,
With nothing held back;
Taking up my cross
Means accepting my lot,
And living with it
To the best of my ability;
And following you
Means using all I have experienced,
And all I have learned,
To help me offer love,
Understanding and support
To those who suffer.
Lord,
Please help me to deny myself,
Take up my cross each day,
And follow you.
I ask this in your holy name,
Amen.
