My priority

Being retired, and not in very robust health, I’m always pleased when I don’t have to get up too promptly in the mornings. However, medical appointments, or other pressing business, quite often intrude to shorten my precious, unstructured quiet time. This makes it much harder for me to be aware of God’s presence throughout the rest of the day. It’s clear that starting the day with contemplative prayer really does need to be my absolute priority, as it is the foundation of everything that follows.

My priority

* Look to the LORD and his strength; seek his face always (1 Chronicles 16:11; NIV).
* He says, “Be still, and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10; NIV).
* Be silent before the Sovereign Lord (Zephaniah 1:7; NIV).

Father,
You are my top priority.
Help me to reach out to you
Day and night.

When I wake each morning,
Help me to seek your face
In quiet contemplation.

Throughout the day,
Help me to remember your presence,
No matter how busy I am.

When I lay down at night,
Help me to thank you
For all that has passed.

Then, help me to commit myself
To your protection
Whilst I sleep.

Father,
You are my top priority.
Help me to reach out to you
Day and night.
