The germ of this prayer came to me during an Ash Wednesday service this week. I had to jot it down quickly, so I didn’t forget it.
Ash Wednesday
Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired hands (Luke 15:18-19; NIV).
Sitting down, Jesus called the Twelve and said, “Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last, and the servant of all” (Mark 9:35; NIV).
Father,
I have sinned against others,
Against heaven,
And against you.
Even when I do my very best,
It’s totally inadequate.
I’m not worthy
To be called your daughter,
Your hired hand,
Or even your servant.
Instead,
I will gladly obey you,
As your willing slave.
