This week I’ve been particularly struck by how little I do for others. However much I tell myself God understands, it’s impossible not to feel useless, and a failure, at times, as today’s prayer shows…
Sinner
“God, have mercy on me, a sinner” (Luke 18:13; NIV).
His master replied, “Well done, good and faithful servant!” (Matthew 25:21; NIV).
Fear the LORD your God, serve him only (Deuteronomy 6:13; NIV).
Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, watching over them – not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not pursuing dishonest gain, but eager to serve
(1 Peter 5:2; NIV).
Father,
I’m a sinner
Who is sick in mind and body,
With nothing to contribute
To your kingdom.
I want to be your good and faithful servant,
But in truth
I’m no use to you at all…
Lord,
Please forgive my sins.
Heal and restore me,
So I can serve you eagerly.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
