Self-righteousness
“Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned” (Luke 6:37; NIV).
“For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured out to you” (Matthew 7:2; NIV).
…no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison
(James 3:8; NIV).
“But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you”
(Luke 6:27; NIV).
Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it (Psalm 34:14; NIV).
“For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted” (Luke 18:14; NIV).
Father,
How come we are never
So sure we’re in the right,
As when we’re in the wrong?
Sure that what we’re thinking
Is wholly justified –
Even when it’s judgemental?
Sure that what we’re saying
Is wholly justified –
Even when it’s hurtful?
Sure that what we’re doing
Is wholly justified –
Even when it’s unkind?
Lord,
Please help us
To think, and say, and do
Only that which is righteous
In your sight –
Not in our own!
