Alive
Depression haunts my days (Job 30:16; NLT).
“Is it your wisdom that makes the hawk soar and spread its wings toward the south?” (Job 39:26; NLT).
The wind blows and we are gone – as though we had never been here
(Psalm 103:16; NLT).
“The LORD brings death and makes alive” (1 Samuel 2:6; NIV).
Father,
Today, I felt alive!
I was having a great bike ride,
And then I crashed,
And a kind woman
Stopped to help me;
And I saw a sparrow-hawk,
Sitting on a step
Not ten feet away,
And we gazed at each other
For a long moment,
Until it spread its wings
And flew away;
And a friend put my chain back on,
And bandaged my knee,
And got me some water,
And gave me a hug;
And I cycled home
Against the untethered wind,
Soaring through wide blue skies
And streaming clouds
Towards your infinite, shining sea –
And for the first time ever,
I knew I was truly alive.
