Courage and strength

Courage and strength

The LORD is my strength (Exodus 15:2; NLT).

But Jesus spoke to them at once. “Don’t be afraid,” he said. “Take courage. I am here!” (Matthew 14:27; NLT).

Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ (Ephesians 4:15; NLT).

Whenever I’m afraid
To say what I need to,
I feel powerless,
And depressed.

Please give me
The courage and strength I lack.

Help me
To speak the truth with love,
As Jesus did,
So I can become
Just a little more like him.

For God has said, “I will never fail you. I will never abandon you” (Hebrews 13:5; NLT).

‘For in him we live and move and have our being’ (Acts 17:28; NIV).

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord  (Romans 8:38-9; NIV).

We know how much God loves us, and we have put our trust in his love. God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them (1 John 4:16; NLT).

It’s futile
For us to seek you
By desperately
Asking where you are,
And begging
To feel your presence;

For you never leave us
Or forsake us.
In you we live and move
And have our being,
So nothing can separate us
From your love.

Please help us to trust
That if we live in love
We live in you,
And you live in us,
No matter how we feel.

Through Jesus’ name,

Peace and love

Peace and love

“Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned”
(Luke 6:37; NIV).

“For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you”
(Luke 6:38; NIV).

I pray for peace and love
In the heart of everyone
Who judges
And condemns
Other people –
Especially me.

In Jesus’ name,

Follow the way of love
(1 Corinthians 14:1; NIV).

The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love
(Galatians 5:6; NIV).

And may the Lord make your love for one another and for all people grow and overflow
(1 Thessalonians 3:12; NIV).

We, your people,
Cause so much suffering
In the world.

Please help me
To be part of the solution,
Rather than part of the problem,

By offering love to others
Every day,
And everywhere I go.

In Jesus’ name,

Depression haunts my days (Job 30:16; NLT).

“Is it your wisdom that makes the hawk soar and spread its wings toward the south?” (Job 39:26; NLT).

The wind blows and we are gone – as though we had never been here
(Psalm 103:16; NLT).

“The LORD brings death and makes alive” (1 Samuel 2:6; NIV).

Today, I felt alive!

I was having a great bike ride,
And then I crashed,
And a kind woman
Stopped to help me;

And I saw a sparrow-hawk,
Sitting on a step
Not ten feet away,
And we gazed at each other
For a long moment,
Until it spread its wings
And flew away;

And a friend put my chain back on,
And bandaged my knee,
And got me some water,
And gave me a hug;

And I cycled home
Against the untethered wind,
Soaring through wide blue skies
And streaming clouds
Towards your infinite, shining sea –

And for the first time ever,
I knew I was truly alive.

Saying sorry

Saying sorry

For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard
(Romans 3:22-4; NLT).

“So if you are presenting a sacrifice at the altar in the Temple and you suddenly remember that someone has something against you, leave your sacrifice there at the altar. Go and be reconciled to that person. Then come and offer your sacrifice to God” (Matthew 5:23-4; NLT).

…forgive us our sins (Luke 11:4; NLT).

You know what?

God doesn’t expect us
To be perfect!

He just expects us
To be sorry
And to apologise,
Every single time
We hurt someone.

For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end
(Psalm 48:14; NIV).

Not a single person on earth is always good and never sins (Ecclesiastes 7:20; NLT).

God is faithful (1 Corinthians 10:13; NIV).

God is love (1 John 4:16; NLT).

Please help me
Never to let my faith
Depend on how others
Behave towards me,
Or I will constantly
Be at risk
Of losing it –
And may the faith of others
Never depend on me!

In Jesus’ name,
