Like and unlike
For we do not have a great high priest who is unable to empathise with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are – yet he did not sin (Hebrews 4:15; NLT).
And it was only right that he [God] should make Jesus, through his suffering, a perfect leader (Hebrews 2:10; NLT).
Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God” (Matthew 16:16; NLT).
Christ is the visible image of the invisible God (Colossians 1:15; NLT).
Lord Jesus Christ,
Son of Man,
Thank you for your humanity –
For all the ways
You’re just like us:
You shared our birth;
Our hunger, thirst,
Temptation;
Our joy, pain,
Grief and anger;
Our loneliness,
Despair and death.
Lord Jesus Christ,
Son of God,
Thank you for your divinity –
For all the ways
You’re not like us at all:
Your sacred genesis;
Your knowledge, wisdom
And purity;
Your perfection, power,
Goodness and holiness;
Your love,
Courage and humility.
Thank you for being
The visible image
Of the invisible God,
So we can see his face
Reflected in your life.
Amen.
