Empty and full

Empty and full

Remember how short my life is, how empty and futile this human existence!
(Psalm 89:47; NLT).

But those who trust in the LORD will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint
(Isaiah 40:31; NLT).

Lord,
Until a few weeks ago,
I used to call
The way I feel
When I’m tired and drained
Depressed.

Then, as time passed,
Self-pitying
Seemed more accurate.

Next, I recognised that
Flat
Was even better.

But now I know that
Empty
Is the perfect word.

Lord,
When I’m empty,
Help me to be patient –
Trusting in you,
And resting quietly,
While you fill me with new strength.

Then I will soar like an eagle again,
Run without weariness,
Walk, and not faint.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
