ONE GOD

One God

There is only one God (Romans 3:30; NLT).

Now we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror (1 Corinthians 13:12; NLT).

But these oppressors know nothing; they are so ignorant! (Psalm 82:5; NLT).

The LORD looks down from heaven on all mankind to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God. All have turned away, all have become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one. Do all these evildoers know nothing? (Psalm 14:2-4; NIV).

For the leaders of my people – the LORD’S watchmen, his shepherds, – are blind and ignorant (Isaiah 56:10; NLT).

Love your neighbour as yourself (Matthew 19:18; NLT).

But anyone who does not love does not know God – for God is love. (1 John 4:8; NLT).

Father,
You are the only God,
But, making you in our own image,
We misconstrue you
In our many different ways.

Then, being ignorant and foolish,
We argue over who is right,
Determined to impose our views
On those we think are wrong –
Even if that means using force.

Meanwhile, you look on,
Grieved beyond measure
By our wilful blindness,
Cruelty, and violence;

For when we fail to love
Others as ourselves,
We show them that
We don’t know you at all
As you are Love.
