But whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit (1 Corinthians 6:17; NIV).

And pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion (Ephesians 6:18; NLT).

Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’ s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18; NLT).

Nothing is more important
Than being united with you.

Please help me to begin each day
With contemplation,

Then to practice your presence

Praying in the Spirit
At all times,

And thanking you always
For all things.

In Jesus’ name,

God speaks

For God speaks again and again, though people do not recognise it (Job 33:14; NLT).

The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship. Day after day they continue to speak; night after night they make him known (Psalm 19:1-2; NLT).

…and after the fire a still small voice (1 Kings 19:12; NKJV).

“Today when you hear his voice, don’t harden your hearts”  (Hebrews 4:7; NLT).

You speak again and again,
In many different ways:
Through the Bible,
The natural world,
Other people;
Yet we often fail to hear.

Please help us to discern
Your still, small voice,
Not hardening our hearts,
But listening carefully
To everything you say.

Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you (1 Peter 5:7; NLT).

I’ve just grasped
That contemplation
Is a process
Of facing up
To all the things
I cannot set aside,
Sharing them with you,
And learning
How to tackle them,
So I can worship you
Without distraction.

Wait patiently for the LORD (Psalm 27:14; NLT).

He never changes (James 1:17; NLT).

He is not human, so he does not change his mind (Numbers 23:19; NLT).

I wait patiently for you
Each day –

With joy,
Or desolation;

Or bliss;

Crowding thoughts,
Or a clear mind;

In light,
Or darkness –

But no matter how I am,
You do not change at all.

Clouds and thick darkness surround him (Psalm 97:2; NIV).

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it (John 1:5; NLT).

It’s such a grey
And rainy day!

But though thick clouds
Blot out the mountains
And the sea,

Your light shines in my heart,
Where darkness
Can never put it out.

Quaker Meeting

Wait patiently for the LORD (Psalm 27:14; NLT).

Be silent before the LORD, all humanity (Zechariah 2:13; NLT).

Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him (Psalm 37:7).

“Keep on seeking, and you will find” (Matthew 7:7; NLT).

The Quaker Meeting
Is the high point of my week.

All I need to do there
Is to wait patiently for you
In silence,
With my Friends.

It doesn’t even matter
Whether I find you or not –

All I need to do there
Is to wait patiently for you
In silence,
With my Friends.

“I am nothing but dust and ashes” (Genesis 18:27; NIV).

“I am nothing – how could I ever find the answers?” (Jon 40:4; NLT).

Why do you bother with me, Lord?
Why do you give me faith?

For I am nothing,
And I know nothing.

I have nothing to offer,
And I achieve nothing.

Why do you give me prayers
Few people want to use?

What good am I to you,
Without the energy to serve?

My hands are always empty
When I stand before you.

So why do you bother with me, Lord?
You’ve got me stumped!
