IN JAIL

In jail

You will free the captives from prison, releasing those who sit in dark dungeons (Isaiah 42:7; NLT).

He has sent me to comfort the brokenhearted and to proclaim that captives will be released and prisoners will be freed (Isaiah 61:1; NLT).

…lead me along the path of everlasting life (Psalm 139:24; NLT).

Father,
We’re all prisoners,
One way and another.

The foundations of our jails
Are laid when we are young –
By physical, emotional,
And sexual abuse,
Or sheer neglect;

The walls are built
From all the ills
Of body, mind and soul
These toxic experiences cause;

And the locks are maintained
By their wider consequences –
Loneliness, stigma, poverty,
Broken relationships,
Unemployment,
Violence, hatred, and crime.

Lord,
Help us to reach out to one another
In our prison.
Show us the healing path to freedom,
And help us all to follow it –
With you.
