Letting go

“No, my daughters, return to your parents’ homes, for I am too old to marry again” (Ruth 1:12; NLT).

“No,” he replied, “I am far too old to go with the king to Jerusalem” (2 Samuel 19:34; NLT).

“I am eighty years old today, and I can no longer enjoy anything” (2 Samuel 19:35; NLT).

Then she lived as a widow to the age of eighty-four. She never left the Temple but stayed there day and night, worshipping God with fasting and prayer (Luke 2:37; NLT).

Father,
My health is damaged,
My energy in short supply,
And I am growing old.

There are things I’ve never been able to do,
Things I can’t do any more,
And things I will never manage now.

Please help me to let go of them all,
And to accept myself just as I am,
So I can focus on you alone.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
