Lord,
Some people want to tell me
What they think you’re like,
Instead of leaving me
To find out for myself.
If I let them get between us, Lord,
They blot out your light,
And I quickly lose my way
In the darkness.
But you are beyond
All human understanding, Lord –
Your thoughts are not like ours,
And your ways are far beyond
Anything we can imagine,
So none of us can do more
Than glimpse you very dimly.
Lord, help me to stay away
From those who claim
To know the truth,
So I can explore
The paths you show me,
For myself.
