God is light (1 John 1:5; NIV).
Clouds and thick darkness surround him (Psalm 97:2; NIV).
Come close to God, and God will come close to you (James 4:8; NLT).
Lord,
When I close my eyes,
I enter either the light
Of your presence,
Or the darkness
That surrounds you.
But, whether I find myself
In light or darkness,
I thank you for letting me
Draw so close to you.
