When the crowds came to John for baptism, he said, “You brood of snakes! Who warned you to flee God’s coming wrath?” (Luke 3:7; NLT).
“Follow me and be my disciple,” Jesus said to him (Matthew 9:9; NLT).
Love your neighbour as yourself (Mark 12:31; NLT).
But to you who are willing to listen, I say, love your enemies! Do good to those who hate you. Bless those who curse you. Pray for those who hurt you (Luke 6:27-8; NLT).
God’s love is tough –
He tells us straight,
And warns us
Of his wrath to come.
We need to listen
To his voice,
And try to follow
His dear Son;
To say we’re sorry,
And to change,
Love friends and neighbours
As our own;
Love those who hate us,
Those who harm –
Then he will save,
And lead us home.
