Prayer

Prison

You will free the captives from prison, releasing those who sit in dark dungeons (Isaiah 42:7; NLT).

The Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom (2 Corinthians 3:17; NLT).

I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly (John 10:10; NRSV).

Lord,
Please free me
From my inner prison cell,
To live abundantly with you
For evermore.

Spirit of our Father

If we love one another, God lives in us (1 John 4:12; NIV).

I no longer live, but Christ lives in me (Galatians 2:20; NIV).

The Holy Spirit …lives within us (2 Timothy 1:14; NLT).

O Lord, I am your servant (Psalm 116:16; NLT).

And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord (Luke 1:38; KJV).

Spirit of our Father,
Spirit of your Son,
Blessed Holy Spirit,
Sacred Three in One,

Please make your home
Within me,
And help me
To become

Your servant
And your handmaid,
Until my life
Is done.

I lift my eyes

I lift my eyes to you (Psalm 123:1 NLT).

To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul (Psalm 25:1; NKJV).

The Word gave life to everything that was created (John 1:4; NLT).

There is one Lord […] who is over all and in all and living through all (Ephesians 4:5-6; NLT).

Lord
I lift my eyes to you,
But you are hidden
By the darkness.

I lift my eyes to you,
But you are hidden
By the sky.

I lift my eyes to you,
But you are hidden
By the mountains.

I lift my eyes to you,
But you are hidden
By the trees.

Then I lift my soul to you,
And see your Word
Revealed –

Living over, in,
And through
All you create.

One candle

God is light (1 John 1:5; NIV).

The Lord your God is a consuming fire (Deuteronomy 4:24; NIV).

The Lord is peace (Judges 6:24; NIV).

God is love (1 John 4:16; NIV).

Lord,
Just as one candle
Can light a room,

And one flame
Set the world on fire,

So can one word
Bring deep, abundant peace,

And one kindness
Kindle healing, joy, and love.

Faith

It is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God (Ephesians 2:8; NIV).

Now we can serve God, not in the old way of obeying the law, but in the new way of living in the Spirit (Romans 7:6; NLT).

Lord,
Rules and doctrines
Have no bearing
On my faith at all,
For it’s a gift
From you,
Which grows
As I experience you
In contemplation.

May your light fall

Your life-giving light will fall like dew (Isaiah 26:19; NLT).

God is light (1 John 1:5; NIV).

The Lord your God is a consuming fire (Deuteronomy 4:24; NIV).

The Lord is peace (Judges 6:24; NIV).

God is love (1 John 4:16; NIV).

May your light fall
Upon us all,
To end our darkness, Lord;

May your fire fall
Upon us all,
To purge our sins.

May your peace fall
Upon us all,
To halt our violence, Lord;

May your love fall
Upon us all,
To heal our lives.
