Pray continually

Pray continually (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18; NIV).

Be silent before the Sovereign Lord (Zephaniah 1:7; NIV).

I will pray in the Spirit and I will also pray in words I understand (1 Corinthians 14:15; NLT).

Lord,
You ask us to pray
Continually –

So when we can’t pray
In silence,
Please help us
To pray with words;

And when we can’t pray
With words,
Please help us
To pray in silence.

In prayer

Be silent before the Sovereign Lord (Zephaniah 1:7; NIV).

When you pray, don’t babble on and on (Matthew 6:7; NLT).

God is love (1 John 4:16; NIV).

Father,
In prayer –

With fewer words,
We have more room
For silence;

With fewer words,
We have more room
For honesty;

With fewer words,
We have more room
For listening;

With fewer words,
We have more room
For worship;

With fewer words,
We have more room
For love;

And with fewer words,
We have more room
For you.

Hidden

He is clothed in dazzling splendour (Job 37:22; NLT).

Clouds and thick darkness surround him (Psalm 97:2; NIV).

He will be called: Wonderful Counsellor (Isaiah 9:6; NLT).

How great is God – beyond our understanding! (Job 36:26; NIV).

Whether hidden
From our eyes
By dazzling light,

Or concealed from us
By clouds
And deepest darkness,

Lord,
You are wonderful
Indeed –

Beyond all words,
Beyond our
Understanding.

Yesterday has gone

Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows (John 16:33; NLT).

Man is like a breath, his days are like a passing shadow (Psalm 144:4; RSV).

He does not ignore the cries of those who suffer (Psalm 9:12; NLT).

Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18; NIV).

Lord,
Yesterday has gone,
Today is now,
Tomorrow may
Not come at all, for me.

Therefore,
May I rejoice and pray
Continually,
Always giving thanks to you –
No matter what life brings.

May I walk with you

Walk humbly with your God (Micah 6:8; NLT).

Father,
May I walk
With you today.

Father,
May I talk
With you today.

Sit with you,
And stand with you;

Work with you,
And rest with you –

Father,
May I walk
With you today.

Father,
May I stay
With you today.

Father,
May I pray
With you today.

Drive with you,
And share with you;

Serve with you,
And care with you –

Father,
May I stay
With you today.

Sharing

If you are walking in darkness, without a ray of light, trust in the Lord and rely on your God (Isaiah 50:10; NLT).

When you pray, go away by yourself, shut the door behind you, and pray to your Father in private (Matthew 6:6; NIV).

Be still before the Lord (Psalm 37:7; NIV).

Be silent before the Sovereign Lord (Zephaniah 1:7; NIV).

Lord,
Each day,
I rediscover
The joy
Of sharing
My darkness
Solitude,
Stillness,
And silence
With you.

Beyond prayer

I am the Lord, and I do not change (Malachi 3:6; NLT).

Whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit (1 Corinthians 6:17; NIV).

Lord, please help me
As I venture beyond prayer –

Beyond words
And thoughts,

Beyond stillness
And silence,

Beyond time
And space,

And far beyond
My self –

To enter
Your changeless realm,

Where all is light
And oneness,

Peace,
And love.
