Disparity

Keep me from lying to myself (Psalm 119:29; NLT).

**************************************************

Lord,
The greater the disparity

Between the thoughts and feelings
Hidden in my shadow self,

And how I speak and act
With other people,

The more fatigued,
Depressed,

And anxious
I will be.

Self

In him we live and move and have our being (Acts 17:28, NIV).

There is […] one God and Father, who is over all and in all and living through all (Ephesians 4:5-6; NLT).

Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them (1 John 4:16; NIV).

Whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit (1 Corinthians 6:17).

****************************************************************

I know my ideal self
Does not exist, Lord,

While my outward self
Is merely a defence.

So perhaps my shadow self
Is all I am, Lord?

No wonder that
I often use pretence!

Yet, in truth, I have
No separate self at all, Lord,

Though self is an illusion
I hold fast.

But now’s the time
To let it go forever, Lord,

For I see I’m simply
Part of you – at last!

Beyond the edge

Be silent before the Sovereign Lord (Zephaniah 1:7; NIV).

Be still and know that I am God! (Psalm 46:10; NLT).

My ways are far beyond anything you could imagine (Isaiah 55:8; NLT).

***************************************************

Lord,

Day after day,
In silent contemplation,

You take me
Just beyond the edge

Of my
Known world.

Accept your pain

Enjoy prosperity while you can, but when hard times strike, realise that both come from God. Remember that nothing is certain in this life (Ecclesiastes 7:14; NLT).

Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows (John 16:33; NLT).

The Lord gave me what I had, and the Lord has taken it away. Praise the name of the Lord! (Job 1:21; NLT).

Shall we accept good from God, and not trouble? (Job 2:10; NIV).

The Lord gives both death and life (1 Samuel 2:6; NLT).

The Lord is near (Philippians 4:5; NIV).

*******************************************

Accept your pain,
Accept your strife,
Accept your self,
Accept your life.

Accept your joy,
Accept your fear,
Accept your death,
For God is near.

Still and small

After the earthquake there was a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice (1 Kings 19:12; KJV).

Be silent before the Sovereign Lord (Zephaniah 1:7; NIV).

************************************************

Lord God,

Your voice within
Is still and small,

So we need silent prayer
In which to hear you.

Slow healing

He laid his hands on every one of them, and healed them (Luke 4:40; KJV).

With his stripes we are healed (Isaiah 53:5; KJV).

************************************************

Lord,

Healing bleeds so slowly
From your hands to ours,

Like honey, dripping from
A broken comb,

Or oil, oozing from the press
When fruit is crushed.

In silent prayer

There is […] one God and Father, who is over all and in all and living through all (Ephesians 4:5-6; NLT).

Whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit (1 Corinthians 6:17).

*************************************************

Lord God,
In silent prayer

Your waves of light,
Of beauty, peace, and love

Flow out to me,
And back from me to you,

For we
Are one.
