Why do we kick?

Lord,

Why do we kick so hard
Against our suffering,
For life is full of sorrow
And distress?

Why do we find it hard
To face the fact
That we must all know sickness,
Loss, and death?

In theory, our upbringing
And experience
Should equip us to accept
What we must bear;

But for many of us
This is not what happens,
So we wallow in self-pity
And despair.

Please help us to give up
Our fond illusion
That bad things shouldn’t happen here
At all.

Then, may we turn to you
For strength and courage,
For you are great, Lord God,
Though we are small.

Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows (John 16:33; NLT).

How frail is humanity! How short is life, how full of trouble! (Job 14:1; NLT).

Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid” (Matthew 14:27; NIV).

March on with courage, my soul! (Judges 5:21; NLT).

With your help I can advance against a troop, with my God I can scale a wall (2 Samuel 22:30; NIV).

You are great (Jeremiah 10:6; NLT).

I am small (Psalm 119:141; NKJV).
