Sunlight

You give everyone your sunlight,
You give everyone your rain;

You give everyone your Son, Lord,
You give everyone your name.

So everyone deserves our kindness,
Everyone deserves our love;

Everyone deserves our help,
So earth becomes like heaven above.

He gives his sunlight to both the evil and the good, and he sends rain on the just and the unjust alike (Matthew 5:45; NLT).

God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son (John 3:16; NIV).

I kneel before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name (Ephesians 3:15; NIV).

Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them (Romans 12.9; NLT).

Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven (Matthew 6:10; NLT).

The Kingdom of God is already among you (Luke 17:21; NLT).

The Lord your God is God in heaven above and on the earth below (Joshua 2:11; NLT).

Halfway

But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him (Luke 15:20; NIV).

O my God, I am utterly ashamed (Ezra 9:6; NLT).

With you there is forgiveness (Psalm 130:4; NIV).

The eternal God is your refuge, and his everlasting arms are under you (Deuteronomy 33:27; NLT).

*********************************************

You don’t meet us halfway, Lord,
Almighty though you are –

Instead, you run to greet us
Exactly where we are.

And then you hug and kiss us,
Though we shrink away in shame,

But you are all forgiveness,
And we’re welcomed home again.

We can’t give hope

To acquire wisdom is to love oneself (Proverbs 19:8; NLT).

1. We can’t give hope to others
When we have none of our own.

2. We can’t love other people
When we hate to be alone.

3. We can’t guide other people
When we do not know the way,

4. Nor help them find their heaven
When we live in hell each day.

3. Some wandered in the wilderness, lost and homeless (Psalm 107:4; NLT).

4. God blesses those who […] realise their need for him, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs (Matthew 5:3; NLT).

If I make my bed in hell, behold, you are there (Psalm 139:8; NLT).

The way of love

A few days ago I woke up speaking aloud. I was explaining to someone what following God’s way of love involves, like this:

Following God’s way of love means loving, and caring for, all people, all creatures, and all creation.

It means loving everyone we see, hear about, and come into contact with, however briefly – in person, by phone, online, in letters, whilst passing them in the street, or seeing them drive by, reading about them in newspapers, or watching them on TV.

It means genuinely expressing this love through everything we think, and say, and do.

It means responding to all that happens to us as wisely, truthfully, and lovingly as we can, no matter how hurt, offended, angry, or afraid we feel.

It means working to forgive those who have hurt us, loving them, and praying for them each day.

It means never judging or condemning others, and it especially means a total absence of prejudice, discrimination, scapegoating, or hatred of others just for being different from ourselves.

These qualities take years to learn, because they can only be developed through personal learning, inner change, and deep spiritual growth. This process depends on years of prayer, and of listening to God, as we struggle towards maturity, until we can always speak the truth in love – to ourselves, to God, and to others, as Jesus did.

His example of walking the way of love in both life and death helps us with every step along the path, for he asks us to face nothing he hasn’t already faced himself. Our goal, therefore, is to become more and more like him.

So here is today’s prayer:

Jesus,

May we learn from you,
Our Lord, in heaven above,

Until our daily way of life
Becomes God’s way of love.

Bible quotations

Walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us (Ephesians 5:2; NIV).

Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it” (Isaiah 30:21; NIV).

Commit everything you do to the Lord (Psalm 37:5; NLT).

I want your will to be done, not mine (Luke 22:42; NLT).

We will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ Ephesians 4:15; NLT).

“My Lord and my God!” Thomas exclaimed (John 20:28; NLT).

Even if…

Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things he does for me. He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases. He redeems me from death and crowns me with love and tender mercies (Psalm 103:2-4; NLT).

Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin and death? (Romans 7:24; NLT).

Even though the fig trees have no blossoms, and there are no grapes on the vines; even though the olive crop fails, and the fields lie empty and barren; even though the flocks die in the fields, and the cattle barns are empty, yet I will rejoice in the Lord! (Habakkuk 3:17-18; NLT).

*************************************

Lord,

Even if you don’t forgive me,
Even if you do not heal me,
Even if you don’t free me
From death,

Yet may I still love you dearly,
Yet may I still serve sincerely,
Yet may I praise you
Till my last breath.

Our souls’ release

He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases (Psalm 103:3; NLT).

I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly (John 10:10; NRSV).

Only he will release my feet from the snare (Psalm 25:15; NIV).

The dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it (Ecclesiastes 12:7; NIV).

*******************************************

Fill us, Lord,
With your forgiveness;

Fill us
With your healing light.

Fill us
With your cleansing fire;

Fill us
With your lasting peace.

Fill us
With your ceaseless love, Lord;

Fill us
With your precious truth.

Fill us
With abundant life, Lord,

So we gain
Our souls’ release.

Healing

Father God,

Please fill me
With your Spirit.

Free me from fatigue;
Forgive my sin.

Give me peace of mind
And healing energy –

And help me take the time
To drink them in.

**************************************

He has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love (Romans 5:5; NLT).

He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases (Psalm 103:3; NLT).

Those who hope in the Lord will find new their strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint (Isaiah 40:31; NLT).

I am leaving you with a gift – peace of mind and heart (John 14:27; NLT).

Wait patiently for the Lord (Psalm 27:14; NIV).

Your idea of healing

We know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him (Romans 8:28).

Heal my soul; for I have sinned against thee (Psalm 41:4; KJV).

God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16; NLT).

***********************************

Lord,

Your idea of healing
Is much deeper
Than our own,

For you, Lord,
Want to heal
Our damaged souls.

So many prayers

Their nets were so full of fish they began to tear […] Soon both boats were filled with fish and on the verge of sinking (Luke 5:6-7; NLT).

*****************************************

Lord,

You give so many prayers –
I can’t keep up,

Like the fishermen
Whose catch was very great.

Their nets began to tear,
Their boats to sink –

They needed your assistance
With the weight.

Please help me to maintain
My contemplation.

Please help me, Lord,
To note down every piece.

Please help me to continue
With my writing –

Until the day you want me, Lord,
To cease.

Dare to love

He loves us with unfailing love (Psalm 117:2; NLT).

I love you, Lord (Psalm 18:1; NLT).

Love your neighbour (Matthew 22:29; NLT).

To acquire wisdom is to love oneself (Proverbs 19:8; NLT).

***********************************

Lord God,
You love us all,
Including me,

So I dare to love you,
Others,
And my self.
