I touch your Spirit

Lord God,

I touch your Spirit
During prayer,
Passing my hands through bands
Of star-strewn light.

The rest is darkness;
Nothingness; a void
From which your Word frames worlds
For your delight,

And carries home,
To reunite with you,
All things whose life-span
In your hand is through.

That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched – this we proclaim concerning the Word of life (1 John 1:1; NIV).

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep waters. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters (Genesis 1:1-2; NLT).

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made (John 1:1-3; NIV).

The worlds have been framed by the word of God  (Hebrews 11:3; ASV).

He will take delight in you with gladness (Zephaniah 3:17; NLT).

If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them gets lost, what will he do? Won’t he leave the ninety-nine others in the wilderness and go to search for the one that is lost until he finds it? And when he has found it, he will joyfully carry it home on his shoulders (Luke 15:4-5; NLT).

The dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it (Ecclesiastes 12:7; NIV).

My life span is gone, taken from me like a shepherd’s tent (Isaiah 38:12; NKJV).

The life of every living thing is in his hand (Job 12:10; NLT).

Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast (Psalm 139:7-10; NIV).

You have been born again, but not to a life that will quickly end. Your new life will last forever because it comes from the eternal, living word of God (1 Peter 1:23; NLT).
