Sunrise and sunset

Sunrise and sunset, Lord,
Are an illusion –
Moments in time,
Wherever we may be;

For your sun burns,
Unceasing in the heavens,
While earth spins us around it
Constantly.

So we move from light, Lord,
Into darkness;
From darkness back to light,
Day after day;

And, likewise, we must face
Our inner darkness,
As well as brighter times
Along our way.

There may we rest,
In stillness and in silence,
Safe, Lord, in the shadow
Of your wing;

For night shines bright as day
To you, their Maker,
So, even in our darkness,
We can sing.
