You come again

He will come again (Hebrews 9:28; NLT).

1. Lord,
You come again each day,
To see if we ignore you,
Or perceive you.

2. Lord,
You cross our path each day,
To see if we reject you,
Or receive you.

3. Lord,
You speak to us each day,
To see if we dismiss you,
Or obey you.

4. Lord,
You test us out each day,
To see if we support you,
Or betray you.

5. Lord,
You visit us each day
In everyone: the stranger,
And the friendless.

6. Lord,
You challenge us each day
In those we fear, and those
Whose needs are endless.

7. Lord,
You call to us each day
In foreigner and neighbour,
Old and young.

8. Lord,
You come again each day,
For you live in us all:
God’s much-loved Son.

Suddenly their eyes were opened and they recognised him
(Luke 24:31; NLT).

  • What a blessed poem! And now I am blessed by it. This is amazing Ruth, there are similarities in your poem and my post today. There is definitely a God given message for us all here. God bless you today Ruth.

    • We are indeed blessed, Alan! Today’s prayer arrived yesterday, and I worked on it throughout the day. Even getting the photos right was exhausting. It was so hard to get it all to say exactly what it needed to say, but God got me there in the end. I have a feeling that you write much more fluently than I do! XXXXX

      • That is similar to my process Ruth. My text was sitting in my drafts for six days but I only wrote it yesterday afternoon. I editted it heavily in various re-reads. I have to disagree with you about your comparison of our writings Ruth, in my view yours is much more succinct and powerful in the poetic format than my wordy work.

      • Well, I’m not going to risk damaging our friendship by arguing! Whatever approach God gives us is the appropriate one for our gifts, and his purposes – and that’s all that matters XXXXXXX

      • I felt the connection between our works was too important not to highlight it, thus I have added a note to my post and linked your poem to it. Hope you don’t mind.

    • Hi, Addison, I’m delighted that you came across my website, and took the trouble to write to me. It’s good of you to offer to contribute, but I only post here the original prayers, articles, dreams etc that God gives me. This is a very personal and individual way of working, so no one else is involved. However, I’d like to wish you every success with all your ventures. May God bless you. With all best wishes, from Ruth x.
