Day and night

I create the light and make the darkness
(Isaiah 45:7; NLT).

1. Sunrise over waking mountains,
Tender, glowing, rose-pink sky;

2. God pours out his light and glory,
Stooping down, to hear each sigh.

3. Sunset over hills and valleys;
Shining, fading, dying day;

4. God spreads out his sacred darkness,
Stooping down, to hear us pray.

The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship. Day after day they continue to speak; night after night they make him known. They speak without a sound or word; their voice is never heard. Yet their message has gone throughout the earth, and their words to all the world (Psalm 19:1-4; NLT).

  • Ruth, this has got to be the most beautiful devotional poem you have written! I can see these scenes in my imagination and am carried into His presence as I pray. God bless you sister.

    • Such encouraging words, Alan. This is what I saw during prayer early yesterday morning, and it took me all day to express it as best I could. I think that you might be seeing in your imagination exactly what I saw with my eyes closed in prayer. It’s always good to know someone understands and shares such a vision. Sleep well xxx

      • Goodness, Alan, you have so many contacts! Many thanks for reposting today’s prayer. I have so little energy that I’ve recently had to reduce my writing and the number of places I post on each day. At the moment, I’m not managing mass, as it uses up my small energy budget on the days when I have a bit of energy. On the days when I have none, I just sit in my reclining chair. But I think I’m slowly learning to rest in God, and not to push myself beyond my very small limits. I have prayed for you both this morning. May God bless you, however you are. With love from Ruth xxxxx
