A holy faith

As you build yourselves up in your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting expectantly for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ for eternal life (Jude 1:20-21; CSB).

We cannot build
A holy faith
By judging those
Who don’t behave like us.

We cannot build
A holy faith
By hating those
Who don’t agree with us.

We cannot build
A holy faith
By killing those
Who don’t share our beliefs.

We only build
A holy faith
By loving all our enemies,
And friends.

We see your Word

We see your Word
Reflected in the chalice,

And taste your Word
Embodied in the bread.

We share your Word
Through mingled wine and water,

And love your Word,
Whose precious blood was shed.

References

He took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me. In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you” (Luke 22:19-20; NIV).

May I share

Jesus,
May I share your birth;

Jesus,
May I share your breath.

Jesus,
May I share your pain;

Jesus,
May I share your death.

Jesus,
May I share your flesh;

Jesus,
May I share your blood.

Jesus,
May I share your faith;

Jesus,
May I share your love.

Rejoice in God

Rejoice in God
Both night and day;

Give thanks to him,
And always pray.

Put all your faith
In God above;

Don’t give up hope,
But grow in love.

You are my heartbeat

Lord,
You are my heartbeat,
The pulsing of my blood;
The breath that keeps my mind alive,
My readiness to love.

Lord,
You are my Maker,
The Friend I don’t deserve;
My Saviour, and my lifelong goal,
My readiness to serve.

Lord,
You are my Father,
The One who will forgive;
My life-force, and my heart’s desire,
My readiness to live.

Resting place

Lord God,

We are your resting place
From birth.

You live within our hearts –
Your realm on earth.

You dwell within us, Lord,
Till our last breath.

Then you become our resting place
In death.

Ask, seek, knock

Can a person do anything to help God? Can even a wise person be helpful to him? (Job 22:2; NLT).

If I were hungry, I would not tell you, for all the world is mine and everything in it (Psalm 50:7,12; NLT).

Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you (Matthew 7:7; NLT).

For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known (1 Corinthians 13:12; NIV).

Father,

There is nothing I can do
To impress you.

Neither do you need my help
In any way.

Yet still you love me,
And desire my love.

So I’ll keep on
Seeking you,

And  knocking at your door,
Until it opens.

Then I will see you,
Face to face, at last,

And know you fully,
Just as I am fully known.
