In my bones

Truly he has endured our sufferings
(Isaiah 53:4; ABPE).

God is in my bones
As I grow old.
He shares my dwindling energy;
My pain.

God is in my mind
As I forget.
He shares my loss of sharpness;
My regret.

God is in my heart
As I decline.
He shares my growing love;
My inner peace.

God is in my soul
As I face death.
He shares my life –
From birth, to my last breath.

God is love,

and all who live in love live in God,

and God lives in them
(1 John 4:16; NLT).

Failing

My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak, but God remains the strength of my heart; he is mine forever (Psalm 73:26; NLT).

Lord,
My health is failing:
I’m weary, slow, and lame.

Please help me still to walk with you,
Rejoice,
And praise your name.

My spirit, Lord, is failing:
Forgetful, sad,
And weak.

Please help me still to wait for you,
To listen, pray,
And seek.

Yet, still, my heart is strong, Lord:
Forever,
We are one.

Please help me to accept my lot
With thanks:
Your will be done.

Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18; NIV).

Darkness

They know not, neither will they understand;
they walk on in darkness
(Psalm 82:5, KJV).

Lord,

So many people
Walk in darkness.

Some never knew you;
Others, Lord, forgot.

Today, may many recognise
Your presence,

And turn to you, Lord,
Then forget you not.

Suddenly, their eyes were opened,
and they recognised him
(Luke 24:31; NLT).

Be careful not to forget the Lord
(Deuteronomy 6:12; NLT).

Your right hand will hold me fast
(Psalm 139:10; NIV).

1. Hold me fast
When I forget you.

2. Hold me, Father,
When I stray.

3. Hold me close
When I am weary.

4. Hold me
When I cannot pray.

5. Hold me safe
When I’m in danger.

6. Hold me, Father,
When I cry.

7. Hold me tight
When I’m in pain,

8. And hold me, Lord,
When I must die.

May I forget myself

Then [Jesus] said to the crowd, “If any of you wants to be my follower,
you must turn from your selfish ways,
take up your cross daily, and follow me” (Luke 9:23; NLT).

1. Lord,
May I forget myself,
And simply worship you.

2. Lord,
May I forget myself,
And serve in all I do.

3. Lord,
May I forget myself,
And pray with every thought.

4. Lord,
May I forget myself,
And love you as I ought.
