A second chance

Lord God,
If our fathers didn’t treat us
As they should,
You give us a second chance,
By offering your love.

Mary,
If our mothers gave no comfort
From the start,
You give us a second chance,
By offering your heart.

Jesus,
If our brothers didn’t help us
As they might,
You give us a second chance,
By offering your light.

Spirit,
If our sisters were uncaring
In our youth,
You give us a second chance,
By offering your truth.

We cannot have your light

Lord,

We cannot have your light
If we don’t live by your truth.

We cannot have your light
If we dare not face your fire.

We cannot have your light
If we do not build your peace.

We cannot have your light
If we fail to give your love.

You shine

You shine with a light
No human eye can bear.

You speak with a voice
No human ear can hear.

No human heart can share.

All human souls should fear.

A vagrant

Christ our Lord,
A vagrant
With no beauty in man’s sight;

Christ our Lord,
Despite your rags
You wear a robe of light;

Christ our Lord,
God’s only Son,
Who heals, forgives, and saves;

Christ our Lord,
You suffered death for us,
Your willing slaves.
