The Helper

I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.
(John 14:16-17; ESV).

Lord,
When I’m sick,
Or in pain,
Or I fall:
You are the Helper
Who shares in it all.

Lord,
When I’m sad,
Or alone,
Or afraid:
You are the Helper
Who comes to my aid.

Lord,
When I’m angry,
Or hurt,

Or I sin:
You are the Helper
Who pleads deep within.

The Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but that very Spirit intercedes with sighs too deep for words
(Romans 8:26; NRSV).

Failing

My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak, but God remains the strength of my heart; he is mine forever (Psalm 73:26; NLT).

Lord,
My health is failing:
I’m weary, slow, and lame.

Please help me still to walk with you,
Rejoice,
And praise your name.

My spirit, Lord, is failing:
Forgetful, sad,
And weak.

Please help me still to wait for you,
To listen, pray,
And seek.

Yet, still, my heart is strong, Lord:
Forever,
We are one.

Please help me to accept my lot
With thanks:
Your will be done.

Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18; NIV).

Prayer

Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me (Matthew 25:40; NIV).

Lord,
I pray for all those who are cold,
Hungry, thirsty, fearful,
Or in pain.

Lord,
I pray for all those who are sick,
Homeless, sad, awaiting help,
In vain.

Lord,
I pray for all those who are poor,
Abused, enslaved,
Whose sorrow never ends.

Help me, Lord, like you,
To care for all,
While loving those who hate me,
As my friends.

Love your enemies! Do good to those who hate you. Bless those who curse you. Pray for those who hurt you (Luke 6:27-8; NLT).

God mourns

The Lord observed the extent of human wickedness on the earth, and he saw that everything they thought or imagined was consistently and totally evil. So the Lord was sorry he had ever made them and put them on the earth. It broke his heart.
(Genesis 6:5-6; NLT)

God mourns
To see our bitter hatred,

Sad he made us all
From dust.

He grieves
To see our wilful blindness,

Waiting, weeping
Over us.

The Lord must wait for you to come to him
so he can show you his love and compassion.
(Isaiah 30:18;
NLT)

God is good

💙

Only God is truly good (Luke 18:19; NLT).

1. God is good —
There’s nothing more to say.
He longs for us,
And wants to help each day.

2. God is great —
There’s nothing else to add.
He cares for us,
When we are sick, or sad.

3. God is perfect —
Who will dare deny?
He watches us
And understands each sigh.

4. God is faithful —
None can disagree.
He loves us all, and waits
For you and me.
