At your pleasure

Our lives are in his hands
(Psalm 66:9; NLT).

I live at your pleasure, my Father:
I’m wholly dependent on you.

You give me the breath which sustains me
In all that I think, say and do.

You give me food, water, and shelter;
The riches of land, sea, and sky.

You give me your loving salvation –
And when you say the word, I will die.

The Lord gives both life and death
(1 Samuel 2:6; NLT).

Earth and sky (#2 of 2 linked prayers)

There is […] one God and Father, who is over all and in all and living through all (Ephesians 4:5-6; NLT).

In earth and sky,
May I perceive your presence.

In every face,
May I behold your Son.

In every bird,
May I revere your Spirit –

For you’re in everything,
Most Holy One.

Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God (Psalm 90:2; NIV).

Earth and sky (#1 of 2 linked prayers)

Yours, O Lord, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty. Everything in the heavens and on earth is yours, O Lord, and this is your kingdom (1 Chronicles 29:11; NLT).

May earth and sky
Remind me of your presence,

May every face
Remind me of your Son;

May every bird
Remind me of your Spirit,

For your indwelling, Lord,
Makes all things one.

There is […] one God and Father, who is over all, and in all, and living through all (Ephesians 4:5-6; NLT).

Day and night

I create the light and make the darkness
(Isaiah 45:7; NLT).

1. Sunrise over waking mountains,
Tender, glowing, rose-pink sky;

2. God pours out his light and glory,
Stooping down, to hear each sigh.

3. Sunset over hills and valleys;
Shining, fading, dying day;

4. God spreads out his sacred darkness,
Stooping down, to hear us pray.

The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship. Day after day they continue to speak; night after night they make him known. They speak without a sound or word; their voice is never heard. Yet their message has gone throughout the earth, and their words to all the world (Psalm 19:1-4; NLT).

You will pray to him, and he will hear you (Job 22:27; NLT).

Presence

The Lord is in this place, and I wasn’t even aware of it
(Genesis 28:16; NLT).

1. God is present in all things:
In joy and pain,
In loss, and gain;
In smiles and tears,
In plans, and fears.

2. God is present in all things:
In earth and sky,
In land, and sea;
In life and death,
In you, and me.

Plague

The Lord’s anger is blazing against them – the plague has already begun
(Numbers 16:46; NLT).

1. Lord,
From this plague,
What lessons can we learn?
That when we shun the poor,
In time, all starve?
And when we heat the world,
In time, all burn?

2. Lord,
From this plague,
What warnings should we glean?
That when we spoil the seas,
In time, all weep?
And when we foul the sky,
In time, all keen?

3. Lord,
From this plague,
What cautions must we heed?
That when we fail the sick,
In time, all mourn?
And when we wound our foes,
In time, all bleed?

You say, “I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.” But you do not realise that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked (Revelation 3:17; NIV).

In free-fall

Let me fall into the hands of the Lord (1 Chronicles 21:13; NLT).

Into your hands I commit my spirit (Psalm 31:5; NIV).

1. In free-fall through the darkness, Lord,
You catch me,

2. And hold me
In your everlasting arms,

3. So we can watch the stars
Go wheeling by,

4. With glorious singing,
In your midnight sky.
