We can’t control our thoughts

Lord,

We can’t control our thoughts,
But we can be aware of them,
With you.

We can’t control our thoughts,
But we can share them straightaway
With you.

We can’t control our thoughts,
But we can share them honestly
With you.

We can’t control our thoughts,
But we can say: “I’m sorry, Lord,”
To you.

We can’t control our thoughts,
But we can try repeatedly –
With you.

No closer

You are the temple of the living God (2 Corinthians 6:16; NLT).

Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed (Mark 1:35; NIV).

Surely the Lord is in this place, and I was not aware of it (Genesis 28:16; NIV).

After the fire [there was] a still small voice (1 Kings 19:12; NKJV).

Listen to his voice (Deuteronomy 13:4; NLT).

Be silent before the Sovereign Lord (Zephaniah 1:7; NIV).

We are no closer to you, Lord, in contemplation,
Than we are at any other time,

For you are always here,
Within us all.

Rather, we can be more aware of your presence
During contemplation,

When we leave our busy, noisy world behind,
So we can listen for your still, small voice

In silence.

May I slowly let go

The dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it (Ecclesiastes 12:7; NIV).

Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit (Luke 23:46; KJV).

I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one – as you are in me, Father, and I am in you (John 17:21; NLT).

Lord,
May I slowly let go of
My self,
Becoming aware
Of our oneness
In deep silence.

Lord,
May I slowly relinquish
My self,
Remaining aware
Of our oneness
Day and night.

Lord,
May I slowly surrender
My self,
Fully aware
Of our oneness
In life, and in death.

The purpose of life

Surely the Lord is in this place, and I wasn’t even aware of it! (Genesis 28:16; NLT).

The Lord – who is the Spirit – makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image (2 Corinthians 3:18; NLT).

Whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit (1 Corinthians 6:17).

If we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us (1 John 4:12; NIV).
