Resting place

Lord God,

We are your resting place
From birth.

You live within our hearts –
Your realm on earth.

You dwell within us, Lord,
Till our last breath.

Then you become our resting place
In death.

Each life conceived

You are each life conceived;
Each messy birth;

You are the air we breathe;
All life on earth.

You are the light we see;
The storms we brave;

You are each heartfelt plea;
The peace we crave.

You are our comfort here;
Our daily bread;

You are the fire we fear;
The judge we dread.

You are the way to live;
The pain we face;

You are the love we give;
The source of grace.

You are the food we eat;
The cup we drink;

You are the truth we seek –
Our missing link.

I’m an outpost

I’m an outpost for the Father,
Here, in exile, on the earth.

I’m a cattle-stall for Mary,
Crying out, as I give birth.

I’m a lodging-place for Jesus,
Slowly growing like God’s Son.

I’m a temple for the Spirit,
Thanking him for all he’s done.

You gave your Son,

The Christ, from whom

Of being born,
And facing life.

Live forever!

At your birth
The angels sing;

In the heavens
Praises ring.

In the temple
Seeking truth –

Far beyond
Your tender youth.

At the river,
Truth descends;

On the mountain,
Light transcends.

At the Supper,
Destiny;

In the garden,
Agony.

Then, at last,
Comes your arrest –

So much hatred
Manifest.

Yet, when questioned,
You stay mute –

All are free
To persecute.

On the cross,
Your darkest hour;

Pain and sorrow
Overpower.

In the tomb,
Death cannot win –

You live forever,
Heavenly King!
