The perfect choice

Father,
I have heard your call.

Father,
May I give my all.

Father,
I have heard your voice.

You, Lord, are
The perfect choice.

He let you hear his voice from heaven so he could instruct you (Deuteronomy 4:36; NLT).

You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind (Luke 10:27; NLT).

Few things are needed – or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her (Luke 10:42; NIV).

The kingdom of God

Friends, let us live
In the kingdom of God,

For though other people
Might think we are odd,

As we love, and forgive,
As we serve, and rejoice,

We will show all we meet
They can make the same choice.

The kingdom of God is within you (Luke 17:21; NKJV).

Love your neighbour as yourself (Matthew 22:39; NIV).

Love your enemies (Matthew 5:44; NIV).

Forgive anyone who offends you (Colossians 3:13; NLT).

Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last, and the servant of all (Mark 9:35; NIV).

Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18; NIV).

Our humble King

Lord God, I pray
For all, today,

Who will not listen
For your voice,

Or long for you;
Or make the choice

To seek your Son,
The Holy One,

And follow him,
Our humble King.

If only you would listen to his voice today! (Psalm 95:7; NLT).

Keep on seeking, and you will find (Matthew 7:7; NLT).

The holy one to be born will be called the Son of God (Luke 1:35; NIV).

“Come, follow me,” Jesus said (Matthew 4:19; NIV).

Look, your king is coming to you. He is humble (Matthew21:5; NLT).

Hurt is inevitable

If another member of the church sins against you, go and point out the fault when the two of you are alone (Matthew 18:15; NRSV).

So then, putting away all falsehood, let all of us speak the truth to our neighbours, for we are members of one another. Be angry but do not sin (Ephesians 4:25-6; NRSV).

We will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ (Ephesians 4:15; NLT).

Lord,

In all relationships
And groups,
Hurt is inevitable.

What counts
Is how we handle it
When it occurs.

Basically,
We have two choices:

We can face,
Discuss,
And resolve each issue
As it arises,
Then move forward
With a better understanding
Of one another;

Or:

We can allow the hurts
To build up,
Unexpressed,
Undiscussed
And unresolved,
Until the relationship concerned
Breaks down completely –

The choice is ours.

You are a light

I am the light of the world (John 8:12; NLT).

She […] laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn (Luke 2:7; NLT).

After the fire a still small voice (1 Kings 19:12; KJV).

My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? (Mark 15:34; NLT).

Lord,

You are a light,
A dove in flight,
A crown of gold;

A squalid byre,
A tongue of fire,
A love untold;

A still, small voice,
A daily choice,
A healing breath;

A cry of pain,
A Saviour slain,
A bitter death.

Hating is a choice

Love your neighbour as yourself (Mark 12:31; NLT).

Love your enemies! (Matthew 5:44; NLT).

Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us (Luke 11:4; NLT).

Hating is a choice,
And a decision;

Loving is a choice,
And a decision.

Anger is a choice,
And a decision;

Forgiveness is a choice,
And a decision –

Please help me
To choose wisely,
Every time, Lord.
