Tests

Hello, everyone. I want to let you all know that I’m in hospital with breathing difficulties, just in case there is some disruption to my daily posts. I was admitted on Monday, and am currently waiting to have a scan and, hopefully, a diagnosis. Love to you all, from Ruth XXXXX

Lord,

Whether my tests are great or small,
May I help those who stumble.

Whether my pain is strong or weak,
May I help others through.

Whether my tears fall fast or slow,
May I help those who suffer.

Whether my life is long or short,
May I, like Christ, serve you.

Second nature

Lord, live in me,
So I become like you,

For Saint Paul says:
We have the mind of Christ.

Then you, Lord, will become
My second nature,

And I will gladly share
Your sacrifice.

Cleanse my heart

You must be compassionate, just as your
Father is compassionate (Luke 6:36; NLT).

Cleanse my heart, Lord,
So that I
May care for you
In those who sigh.

Mend my heart, Lord,
So that I
May comfort you
In those who cry.

Heal my heart, Lord,
So that I
May watch with you
In those who die.

Fill my heart, Lord,
So that I
May be more like you,
Christ, on high.

The miracle of life

Lord,

Thank you
For the miracle of life:
You make us and sustain us
Day and night.

You grant us breath and shelter,
Water, food;
This Earth to cherish,
Constantly renewed.

Your send your Son:
His teaching, flesh, and blood,
To show us all
Your deep, unfailing love.

You give us minds,
So we can grow like Christ,
And hearts, so we can grasp
His sacrifice

For us, and see, at last,
What makes us whole:

One world, one human race,
One blood, one goal;

One peace, one truth, one love,
One God, one soul.

This is my blood, which confirms the covenant between God and his people. It is poured out as a sacrifice to forgive the sins of many (Matthew 26:28; NLT).

From one *blood he made all nations to inhabit the whole earth, and he allotted the times of their existence and the boundaries of the places where they would live, so that they would search for God and perhaps grope for him and find him – though indeed he is not far from each one of us. For ‘In him we live and move and have our being’ (Acts 17:26-8; NRSV; *using the alternative reading for ‘ancestor’, which is ‘blood’).

Trials and sorrows

Lord,

You send us many trials
And sorrows –
Many opportunities
To grow.

This means putting all our faith
In you, Lord;
This means trusting you,
And letting go.

When we kick against your will
We suffer –
Anger only adds
To what we face;

But, when we accept your will
As Christ did,
We rejoice –
Sufficient is your grace!
