No need

I have no need to ask you
“Lord, why me?”

For you have reasons
I can never guess.

I have no impulse, Lord,
To doubt your love;

You have a plan,
So my heart is at rest.

I have no urge
To crave a miracle;

You have a purpose;
May your will be done.

I have no motive, Lord,
To make complaint,

For you bring good from all things,
Through your Son.

“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine” (Isaiah 55:8; NLT).

The Lord will work out his plans for my life (Psalm 138:8; NLT).

I want your will to be done, not mine (Matthew 26:39; NLT).

We know that all things work together for good for those who love God (Romans 8:28; NRSV).

He is right beside me (Psalm 16:8; NLT).

Keep on seeking, and you will find (Matthew 7:7; NLT).

Stretch out your hands to him (Job 11:13; NLT).

Whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit (1 Corinthians 6:17; NIV).

You walk beside us all,
Stretching out your hand
To offer union with you.

But we’re too busy with our lives
To notice you;
So we never see you waiting patiently,
Nor do we seek your company.

Instead, we complain
That you seem far away,
Insist you’re dead,
Or claim you don’t exist.

But if we reach out
To join our hands with yours,
You will guide us towards union
With you.

How frail is humanity! How short is life, how full of trouble! (Job 14:1; NLT).

God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us (2 Corinthians 1:3-4; NLT).

Love your neighbour as yourself (Matthew 19:19; NLT).

Everyone has problems.

Some are willing to work
On personal change.

I can support them
As they grieve,
And adapt to
Their new reality.

But others
Don’t want to change.

They only want
To complain bitterly
About what they’ve lost,
Revelling in self-pity
And resentment.

Their company
Is toxic.

Their behaviour
Makes me very anxious,
Ringing all my warning bells
From childhood.

So I stay away from them,
Because I must protect myself,
By listening to my body,
And remembering
My own deep-rooted limitations.

“Should we accept only good things from the hand of God and never anything bad?” (Job 2:10; NLT).

I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation (Philippians 4:12; NLT).

Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Jesus Christ (1 Thessalonians 5:18; NLT).

Please help me
To be content
With what I can do –
And to thank you for it;
Rather than feeling
Sorry for myself
About what I can’t do –
And complaining!

In Jesus’ name,

Prayer for the day

Prayer for the day

Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18).

Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day (2 Corinthians 4:16; NIV).

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength (Mark 12:30; NIV).

Love your neighbour as yourself (Mark 12:31; NIV).

Please help me today
Not to complain,
But to rejoice
In every challenge;

Not to forget you,
But to pray to you
All day long;

Not to wallow in self-pity,
But to thank you
In all circumstances;

And not to sin,
But to love and serve you
With all my heart.

In Jesus’ name,
