A sinner’s prayer

Lord,
I am a sinner,
Not fit to touch your hem,
Yet you have come
To heal my soul,
Instead of to condemn.

Lord,
I am a sinner,
Not fit to loose your shoe,
Yet you have come
To make me whole,
So I can be like you.

Lord,
I am a sinner,
Not fit to kiss your feet,
Yet you have come
To rescue me,
And make my joy complete.

Love all

Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them (Romans 12.9; NLT).

Do not judge others, and you will not be judged (Matthew 7:1; NLT).

Love all
Exactly as,
And where,
They are,

Striving
To hear,
Accept,
And understand.

Then
You will not
Be quick
To criticise,

Nor will you
Judge them,
Punish,
Or condemn.

Love

God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them (1 John 4:16; NIV).

…the time is coming when those who kill you will think they are doing a holy service for God (John 16:2-3; NLT).

“ ‘You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind.’  And, ‘Love your neighbour as yourself’ ” (Luke 10:27; NLT).

Father,
Those who love others
Are on the path to you,
No matter what faith they follow,
Or none,
For you are love.

But those who say they love you
Whilst judging and condemning others,
Hating, exploiting,
Abusing, oppressing,
Or even killing them,
Couldn’t be more wrong:

Because their actions show
They don’t love you at all.

Lord,
Please help us to love you
With all our heart, soul,
Mind and strength,
And our neighbour as ourself –
Just as you command.

Self-righteousness

“Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned” (Luke 6:37; NIV).

“For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured out to you” (Matthew 7:2; NIV).

…no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison
(James 3:8; NIV).

“But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you”
(Luke 6:27; NIV).

Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it (Psalm 34:14; NIV).

“For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted” (Luke 18:14; NIV).

Father,
How come we are never
So sure we’re in the right,
As when we’re in the wrong?

Sure that what we’re thinking
Is wholly justified –
Even when it’s judgemental?

Sure that what we’re saying
Is wholly justified –
Even when it’s hurtful?

Sure that what we’re doing
Is wholly justified –
Even when it’s unkind?

Lord,
Please help us
To think, and say, and do
Only that which is righteous
In your sight –
Not in our own!
