Hidden anger

Do not let the sun go down on your wrath (Ephesians 4:26; NKJV).

Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us (Luke 11:4; NLT).

We will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ (Ephesians 4:15; NLT).

I acknowledge,
Here and now
Before you,

My hidden anger,
And bitterness;

The hurt and harm
I’ve done
To other people;

And the conflicts
That have left me
Scarred for life.

Forgive and heal me,
Gentle Lord,
I pray,

And help me learn
To speak the truth
In love.

I tremble in fear of you (Psalm 119:120; NLT).

I love you, Lord (Psalm 18:1; NLT).

Whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit (1 Corinthians 6:17; NIV).

During meditation
I experience a conflict

Between fearing you –
So longing to turn back,

And loving you –
So longing to go on,

Until I dare
To lose my self,

In unity
With you.

All who obey his commandments will grow in wisdom
(Psalm 111:10; NLT).

He shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into ploughshares, and their spears into pruning hooks: nation shall not lift up a sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more (Isaiah 2:4; KJV).

Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it
(Psalm 34:14; NLT).

When will we grow wise enough
To beat our swords into ploughshares,
And our spears into pruning hooks?

When will we give up
Our guns and bombs,
Our tanks, and fighter jets,
And warships?

When will we learn
To make peace with one another,
Bringing our futile conflicts
To an end, at last?

Hatred stirs up conflict (Proverbs 10:12; NIV).

“Love your neighbour as yourself” (Mark 12:31; NLT).

“Love your enemies” (Luke 6:27; NLT).

To acquire wisdom is to love oneself (Proverbs 19:8; NLT).

Wisdom is more precious than rubies (Proverbs 3:15; NLT).

Hatred is so dangerous.

It turns partners,
And neighbours
Against each other.

It stirs up war –
Tribe against tribe,
State against state,
Faith against faith –
And leads to death.

Help us to overcome our hatred,
Loving our neighbours,
Our enemies,
And even ourselves,
So we may grow in wisdom –
As you desire.

We ask this in Jesus’ name,

People are born for trouble as readily as sparks fly up from a fire (Job 5:7; NLT).

Jesus looked at them intently and said, “Humanly speaking, it is impossible. But with God everything is possible” (Matthew 19:26; NLT).

…turn to the LORD your God with all your heart and soul (Deuteronomy 30:10; NLT).

My mind is crowded
With troubled thoughts
And conflicting emotions –

Contemplation seems

Please help me
To put my worries aside,
And to turn to you
For the space
Of just one breath,
And then another,
And another –

For with you
Everything is possible.

In Jesus’ name,
