Bending to your will

Lord,

May I face my enemies
As you did —

With swift forgiveness,
Bending to your will.

May I face my deepest fears
As you did —

With cries for help,
Yet bending to your will.

May I face my suffering
As you did —

With full acceptance,
Bending to your will.

May I face my life and death
As you did —

With constant prayer,
While bending to your will.

Infinite love

The infinite love
That keeps the stars
In motion,

Hears all our cries,
And holds us
In her hand.

All the stars are at my command (Isaiah 45:12; NLT).

Evening, morning and noon I cry out in distress, and he hears my voice (Psalm 55:17; NIV).

In his hand is the life of every creature (Job 12:10; NIV).

The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms (Deuteronomy 33:27; NIV).

As truly as God is our Father, so truly is God our mother (Julian of Norwich, Showings, translated and introduced by Edmund Colledge and James Walsh; Paulist Press, 1977, p231).

A cry

Hear my prayer, O Lord, and let my cry come unto thee (Psalm 102:1; KJV).

Darkness is all around me; thick, impenetrable darkness is everywhere (Job 23:17; NLT).

Lord,
I’m tired of darkness –
Please give me your light;

I’m tired of being cold –
Please give me your fire;

I’m tired of feeling anxious –
Please give me your peace;

And I’m tired of being alone –
Please give me your love.

May I praise you

Your unfailing love is better than life itself; how I praise you! (Psalm 63:3; NLT).

The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised (Job 1:21; NIV).

Lord,
As swallows praise you
When they fly,

And as fir-trees praise you
When they sigh,

And as babies praise you
When they cry,

So, Lord, may I praise you,
When I die.

One God

One God

There is no one like you, and there is no God but you (2 Samuel 7:22; NIV).

“The LORD our God is the one and only LORD” (Mark 12:29; NLT).

Your name is holy! (Psalm 99:3; NLT).

“I AM WHO I AM” (Exodus 3:14; NLT).

Lord,
We grope towards you,
Blinded by our ignorance –

We understand you
In different ways;

We cry out to you
With different names;

And we seek you
By different paths.

Yet you are
The one and only Lord.

There is no God
But you.

You are who you are,
And holy is your name.
