God’s will

Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven (Matthew 6:10; NLT).

God is love (1 John 4:16; NLT).

Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them (Romans 12.9; NLT).

******************************************

If a thought isn’t loving,
It isn’t God’s will;

If a word isn’t loving,
It isn’t God’s will;

If a deed isn’t loving,
It isn’t God’s will –

However right
We like to think we are!

Standards

We will be mature in the Lord, measuring up to the full and complete standard of Christ (Ephesians 4:13; NLT).

Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ (Ephesians 5:2; NLT).

We will be like him (1 John 3:2, NLT).

Lord Christ,
You set
The very highest standards

Of thought, and word
And deed
In every way,

Not only
For yourself,
But for us, too –

So please help us
To grow more and more
Like you.

Part of you

Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it (1 Corinthians 12:27; NLT).

You know my thoughts (Psalm 139:2; NLT).

He hears us (1 John 5:14; NLT ).

You are the God who sees me (Genesis 16:13; NLT).

So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord (2 Corinthians 3:18; NLT).

God is love (1 John 4:16; NIV).

Lord,
I’m part of you,
And you are part of me.

My thoughts are shared with you,
Because you know me.

My words are shared with you,
Because you hear me.

My deeds are shared with you,
Because you see me.

So, may my thoughts,
And words, and deeds
Reflect your love.

Laid bare

Be still and know that I am God! (Psalm 46:10; NLT).

Be silent before the Lord, all humanity (Zechariah 2:13; NLT).

Wait patiently for him (Psalm 37:7; NIV).

Clouds and thick darkness surround him (Psalm 97:2; NIV).

Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me (Psalm 23:4; NLT).

When all my deeds
Have been laid bare
And stripped away,
Nothing remains
But stillness, Lord,
And you.

When all my words
Have been laid bare
And stripped away,
Nothing remains
But silence, Lord,
And you.

When all my thoughts
Have been laid bare
And stripped away,
Nothing remains
But patience, Lord,
And you.

When all my prayers
Have been laid bare
And stripped away,
Nothing remains
But darkness, Lord –
And you.

Undeserved kindness

God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them (1 John 4:16; NIV).

The fruit of the Spirit is… kindness (Galatians 5:22; ESV).

Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do (Ephesians 5:1; NLT).

Lord,
You’re very kind to me,
Although I don’t deserve your love
In any way.

But that makes no difference
To you –
For you are love,
Living within us all.

Please help me to be
As kind as you
To everyone –
In thought, and word, and deed.

I ask this
For your dear Son’s sake.
Amen.
