Safe distance

“Forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who sins against us” (Luke 11:4; NIV).

“But I say, love your enemies!” (Matthew 5:44; NLT).

“Pray for those who hurt you” (Luke 6:28; NLT).

Please remind me
To stay well away
From angry, controlling,
Narcissistic martyrs.

Then I can forgive them,
And pray for them
From a safe distance,
Rather than getting too close –
And getting hurt!

But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, “God have mercy on me, a sinner”
(Luke 18:13; NIV).

The LORD your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing (Zephaniah 3:17; NIV).

He does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our iniquities (Psalm 103:10; NRSV).

But when the kindness and love of God our Saviour appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy
(Titus 3:4-5; NIV).

I am a sinner –
Not worthy
To love you,
Pray to you,
Or approach you.

Yet you invite me
To join you,
Welcoming me
With open arms –
Not a word
Of reproach.

How merciful
And kind you are,
My Lord
And my God!

Seeking God

Hello everyone. There are definitely days when God can seem very distant, or even horribly absent, perhaps because of illness, lack of energy, anxiety, or not having time to pray quietly alone. Then I have to rely on faith, rather than on feeling his presence…
 Seeking God
One thing I ask of the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple (Psalm 27:4).
Do not hide your face from your servant (Psalm 69:17).
I seek your face,
And want to be close to you
All day and all night.
So when I can’t sense your presence,
Or feel your warmth,
Or see your light;
And when you show me nothing in my prayers,
I am bereft.
I need you, Lord.
My heart cries out to you.
I am empty without you.
My spirit has no home but you.
Yet I know you never leave me,
Even when I cannot feel your presence.
You never forsake me,
For you love all you have made.
Just knowing you love me is enough.
It satisfies my longing,
And fills my soul with peace.
Thank you so much for loving me.
Thank you for your peace.
In Jesus’ holy name,
