Enlightenment and wisdom

Enlightenment and wisdom
Grow in stages –

Through shafts of insight
And of inspiration;

During prayers of thanks, joy,
Or devotion;

Of deep distress;
Or silent contemplation.

The Lord my God will enlighten my darkness (Psalm 18:28; NKJV).

Teach us to number our days carefully so that we may develop wisdom in our hearts (Psalm 90:12; CSB).

The inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding (Job 32:8; WEB).

Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18; NLT).

In my distress I cried out to the Lord (Psalm 18:6; NLT).

Be silent before the Sovereign Lord (Zephaniah 1:7; NIV).

We all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image (2 Corinthians 3:18; NIV).

Prayer, suffering, life, courage, help, bear, illness, mental, physical,

All we need

When we’re in deep distress, Lord,
Your peace is all we need.

When we are lost in darkness
Your light is all we need.

When our faith has grown cold, Lord,
Your fire is all we need.

When we’ve strayed far from wisdom
Your truth is all we need.

When we feel we’re forsaken, Lord,
Your love is all we need.

When we are in the wilderness
Your way is all we need.

The Lord is peace (Judges 6:24; NLT).

God is light (1 John 1:5; NIV).

God is a consuming fire (Deuteronomy 4:24; NIV).

The Spirit is truth (1 John 5:6; NKJV).

God is love (1 John 4:16; NLT).

I am the way (John 14:6; NLT).

Prayer, prayer, healing, contemplation, oneness, love,, suffering, life, courage, help, bear, illness, mental, physical,

You dwell in me

You dwell in me,
And I in you –

In depression,
In anxiety,
And fear;

In anger,
And in hurt, Lord,
And distress;

In sickness,
And in weariness,
And pain;

In joy, Lord,
And in ecstasy,
And bliss;

In life, Lord,
And in death,
For evermore –

You dwell in me,
And I in you.

You are the temple of the living God (2 Corinthians 6:16; NLT).

The kingdom of God is within you (Luke 17:21; KJV).

In him we live and move and have our being (Acts 17:28, NIV).

There is […] one God and Father, who is over all and in all and living through all
(Ephesians 4:5-6; NLT).

Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them (1 John 4:16; NIV).

Whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit (1 Corinthians 6:17; NIV).

In darkness

You have brought me into your presence forever (Psalm 41:12; NLT).

He loves us with unfailing love (Psalm 117:2; NLT).

Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me (Psalm 23:4; KJV).

I’m in darkness,
But you’re with me;
I am lonely,
But you’re here.

I’m distressed,
But you are with me;
I am anxious,
But you’re here.

I am sick,
But you are with me;
I’m in pain,
But you are here;

I’m afraid,
But you are with me;
I am dying,
But you’re here.

Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows (John 16:33; NLT).

If it is possible, let this cup of suffering be taken away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine (Matthew 26:39; NLT).

Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows (Isaiah 53:4; ESV).

Whatever hardships
I experience –

Pain, distress,
Anxiety, or fear –

I don’t ask you
To take them all away.

Instead, help me to face them

Sharing each experience
With you.

So tired

Come to me all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens (Matthew 11:28; NLT).

I am too distressed even to pray (Psalm 77:4; NLT).

The Spirit… intercedes for us with sighs too deep for words (Romans 8:26; NRSV).

People are suffering all around me,
But I’m so tired and burdened
That I can’t even pray.

So, may your Holy Spirit
Intercede for them on my behalf,
With sighs too deep for words,

While I wait patiently on you,
In stillness,
And in silence.

O God, you are my God; I earnestly search for you. My soul thirsts for you; my whole body longs for you in this parched and weary land where there is no water (Psalm 63:1; NLT).

My God, my God, why have you abandoned me? Why are you so far away when I groan for help? (Psalm 22:1; NLT).

For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength (Philippians 4:13; NLT).

Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but that very Spirit intercedes with sighs too deep for words (Romans 8:26; NRSV).

My God,
Where are you?
Have you abandoned me?

My body is weak,
My mind, distressed.
My heart is empty,
And my soul is dry.

Let me hear your voice,
And feel your presence,
For my life is a desert
Where I cannot even pray.

Please help me.
May your Son
Give me the strength
To search for you,

And your Sprit
Pray for me,
With sighs
Too deep for words.
