The time is coming when those who kill you will think they are doing a holy service for God. This is because they have never known the Father or me (John 16:2-3; NLT).

When we wrong others
Whilst imagining
We’re serving you,

We are, in fact, projecting
Our own evil
Directly on to you.

Please disabuse us
Of our delusions, Lord,
And heal us all.

Transcendent God

“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the LORD. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine” (Isaiah 55:8; NLT).

Truly, O God of Israel, our Saviour, you work in mysterious ways (Isaiah 45:15; NLT).

How great is God – beyond our understanding! (Job 36:26; NIV).

You transcend both good and evil,
Life and death,
Past, present,
And future.

Your thoughts
Are nothing like our thoughts;
Your ways
Are nothing like ours.

How great
And how mysterious you are, Lord –
Beyond our understanding,
And our grasp.

He created the earth and everything in it (Isaiah 42:5; NLT).

So God created human beings in his own image (Genesis 1:27; NLT).

…those who do evil prove that they do not know God (3 John 1:11; NLT).

God is love (1 John 4:16; NLT).

You create the earth,
And all that’s in it,
Including humankind.

Everything we make
Relies entirely
On the natural resources
You provide.

Yet we desecrate your precious gifts,
Using them to fashion
Instruments of war
That maim and kill.

When we do evil,
We prove we don’t know you
At all –
For you are love.

They defiled themselves by their evil deeds (Psalm 106:39; NLT).

My experience shows that those who plant trouble and cultivate evil will harvest the same (Job 4:8; NLT).

“They have planted the wind and will harvest the whirlwind” (Hosea 8:7; NLT).

Help us to understand that
When we defile another person
In body, mind, heart, or soul,
We defile ourselves as well.

When we degrade another person
In body, mind, heart, or soul,
We degrade ourselves as well.

When we damage another person
In body, mind, heart, or soul,
We damage ourselves as well.

And when we destroy another person
In body, mind, heart, or soul,
We destroy ourselves as well.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me (Psalm 23:4; KJV).

God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them (1 John 4:16; NLT).

Thank you that
Whatever happens,
However I am,
And wherever I go,
You live in me,
And I live in you.

God is light, and in him there is no darkness at all (1 John 1:5; NIV).

When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me, will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life” (John 8:12; NIV).

God’s light came into the world, but people loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil (John 3:19; NLT).

Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love (Ephesians 5:1-2; NIV).

Your light streams out
Into the darkness
Of our world,
But we close our eyes to it,
And turn our backs on you,
Choosing sin and evil,
Rather than your way of love.

Life, death and eternity

Life, death and eternity

So at last the king gave orders for Daniel to be arrested and thrown into the den of lions (Daniel 6:16; NLT).

Then he ordered some of the strongest men of his army to bind Shadrach, Mesach, and Abednego and throw them into the blazing furnace (Daniel 3:20; NLT).

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me (Psalm 23:4; KJV).

Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying (John 11:25; NLT).

When life throws me
Into the lions’ den,
Or tosses me
Into the fiery furnace,
May I fear no evil,
For you are always with me –
In life,
In death,
And for all eternity.

Through Jesus’ name,
