Written on the day of my first Holy Communion

From today, I turn my face away
From all the harm
My mother did to me,
Remembering it no more.

I call the positives to mind,
While thanking you
For bringing good
From all I have experienced in life.

I will never again remember their sins (Jeremiah 31:34; NLT).

Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus (1 Thessalonians 5:18; NLT).

We know that all things work together for good for those who love God (Romans 8:28; NRSV).

Glimpse the invisible

To the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honour and glory (1 Timothy 1;17; NIV).

After the fire a still small voice (1 Kings 19:12; KJV).

The Spirit is truth (1 John 5:6; NKJV).

The Lord is peace (Judges 6:24; NLT).

God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them (1 John 4:16; NLT).

When we glimpse the invisible;

Hear the silent whisper;

Sense the truth;

Experience peace;

And share in love –

We know we’re in the presence
Of our God.

Agoraphobia diary: 10am day 3

Hello, everyone. Well, today is the third day of my agoraphobia challenge, and this morning brings a chance to catch my breath. I slept like a log, with only one anxiety dream – much better than the night before. The plan for today is to walk to my family’s house, have lunch, then sit in the middle at the back of the car again for a shorter drive to one of my favourite places in the world: Wicken Fen. Hopefully, this will be less testing than the previous two days, though the cumulative effect of facing feared situations is very tiring, especially on top of chronic fatigue.

For now, I’ve got time for an extra pot of tea, then a space for contemplation, before plunging into the day’s activities. Meanwhile, here is this morning’s reflection:

You give us all a lifetime

He gives breath to everyone, life to everyone who walks the earth (Isaiah 42:5; NLT).

How short is life, how full of trouble! (Job 14:1; NLT).

The Lord must wait for you to come to him so he can show you his love and compassion (Isaiah 30:18; NLT).

Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me (Psalm 23:4; NLT).

Lord God,

You give us all a lifetime,
Long or short,

To come to terms
With how we are brought up,

With who, and what,
We are,

And all that
We experience.

Plus, you wait to help us
Every day –

If only
We will ask.

Shatter the windows!

You will free the captives from prison, releasing those who sit in dark dungeons (Isaiah 42:7; NLT).

What sorrow awaits you teachers of religious law […] For you shut the door of the Kingdom of Heaven in people’s faces. You won’t go in yourselves, and you don’t let others enter either (Matthew 23:13; NLT).

Be still in the presence of the Lord (Psalm 37:7; NLT).

Be silent before the Sovereign Lord (Zephaniah 1:7; NIV).

Shatter the windows!
Smash down the doors!

Do what you need to,
So you can escape

The prison of
Conventional religious faith.

Then, experience
The presence of our God,

In stillness,
And in silence –

For yourself.

Prayer, spiritual development, personal growth, faith, exploration, wholeness,

Father and mother

Honour your father and mother (Exodus 20:12; NLT).

Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows (John 16:33; NLT).

Thank you for my father,
And my mother;

For all I experienced in childhood –
Good and bad;

And for all the consequences
I’ve survived;

For all I’ve learned,
And all I’ve had to overcome.

Through Jesus’ name,

I contemplate

Christ is the visible image of the invisible God (Colossians 1:15; NLT).

God speaks again and again, though people do not recognise it (Job 33:14; NLT).

He has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love (Romans 5:5; NLT).

You also are complete through your union with Christ (Colossians 2:10; NLT).

I contemplate
Your unseen face;

For your silent voice;

Your holy love,

And merge my soul
With yours.
