solitude, silence, stillness, darkness, contemplation, prayer,

Do not fear the darkness

Do not fear the darkness
Surrounding God, our Father.

Do not dread the clouds
That hide the sky.

For this is how he shields us
From his overwhelming glory –

Protect us from your face, Lord,
Or we die.

Do not fear the stillness
Surrounding God, our Father.

Do not dread his silence,
But his cry.

For this is how he shields us
From his terrifying power –

Protect us from your voice, Lord,
Or we die.

Do nor fear the solitude
Surrounding God, our Father.

Do not dread his anguish,
Or his sigh.

For this is how he shields us
From his all-consuming anger –

Protect us from your fire, Lord,
Or we die.

Beyond our understanding

Lord,

You are beyond
Our understanding.

A ceaseless, towering fire;
An infinite sea of grace.

A deep, protective darkness;
A glorious, dazzling light.

A fathomless ocean of sorrow;
A boundless, eternal peace.

A mysterious, measureless wisdom;
A sacred, absolute truth.

A terrible, blazing anger;
A timeless, unfailing love.

I know nothing

I know nothing of you, Lord,
Except that you are light;

Please shine upon me every day,
So I can see your might.

I know nothing of you, Lord,
Except that you are fire;

Consume my sins incessantly,
But shield me from your ire.

I know nothing of you, Lord,
Except that you are peace;

Comfort me in all my woes,
Until my life must cease.

I know nothing of you, Lord,
Except that you are grace;

Forgive and save me, Father God,
So I may see your face.

Look for the truth

Look for the truth
Inherent in each person;

Look for the light
That flickers in each mind.

Look for the fire
Smouldering in each spirit;

Look for the treasure
Buried in each soul.

Look for the hurt
Concealed in every outburst;

Look for the spring
Untapped in every heart.

Look for the path
That Jesus wants to show you;

Look for the Lord –
And make his love your goal.

Heavenly, holy world,

And all the sacred elements
