I’m a broken reed

Lord,

I’m a broken reed,
A smoking flame,

But you won’t crush me,
Snuff me out, or maim.

Please show me the place
Where sparrows build their nests,

Close to your altar, Lord,
Where I may rest.

Lord,

You are fire,
But I’m so weak
That I can only host
A tiny spark.

Breathe on my flame
So it grows strong,
And helps to set the world
Ablaze with love.

Sacred flame

Burns in our hearts,

Longing to become
Much more like you.
