Without faith

I pray for those, Lord,
Walking without faith,
For life is hard when we
Dismiss your love.

I pray for those
Who suffer without faith,
For pain is hard when we
Forget your blood.

I pray for those, Lord,
Dying without faith,
For death is hard when we
Reject your grace.

I pray for those
Who meet you unprepared –
Awestruck, Lord,
To see you face to face.

Speak the truth

Father,

May I always
Speak the truth
To you in prayer,

With no pretence,
”Forgetting”,
Or false shame;

And may I pray
At all times
In your Holy Spirit, Lord,

With faith, and hope,
And love,
Through your Son’s name.

You take us in your arms

You take us in your arms each day,
Though we, Lord, cannot see you;

And carry us along the way,
Though we, Lord, disregard you.

You hold our hands when we feel scared,
Though we, Lord, may not know you;

And comfort us when life is hard,
Though we, Lord, soon forget you.

You bear us to our resting place,
Though we, Lord, still deny you –

Until we see you face to face,
Then, we cannot ignore you!

Lord,

Be merciful and kind
Towards my mother;

Forgive her sins,
Forgetting all that’s past.

Don’t let her suffer
Any pain or terror;

And bring her
To your kingdom, Lord,

At last.

But we ignore, forget, or shut you out,
As best we can.

To look for you in stillness;

We don’t wait silently
To hear your voice;

Nor do we spend time with you
In solitude.

Please help us, Lord,
To seek your holy presence,

Then to listen humbly,
And to learn.
