contemplation, forgiveness, pray, Prayer, rejoice, thank

Six words

Six words are sufficient
When we pray to God each day:
Lord, I praise your holy name –
That’s all we need to say.

Five words are sufficient
When we pray to God each day:
I rejoice in you, Lord –
And that’s all we need to say.

Four words are sufficient
When we pray to God each day:
I forgive my enemies –
That’s all we need to say.

Three words are sufficient
When we pray to God each day:
Forgive my sins; forgive my sins –
That’s all we need to say.

Two words are sufficient
When we pray to God each day:
Thank you; thank you; thank you –
And that’s all we need to say.

One word is sufficient
When we pray to God each day:
Father; Father; Father –
And that’s all we need to say.

No words are sufficient
When we pray to God each day,
So let us kneel in silence –
He knows all we need to say.

You faced your cross

Lord,
You faced your cross
Forgiving others;
May I face my own
In the same way.

Lord,
You faced your pain
With care for others;
May I face my own
In the same way.

You faced your death
With love for others;

I want to follow Christ

Lord God,
I want to follow Christ –
Please teach me
How to think.

      Don’t judge, reject,
      Hate, or condemn;
      Make finding fault
      Extinct.

Lord God,
I want to follow Christ –
Please tell me
What to say.

      Apologise to those
      You hurt;
      And speak the truth
      Each day.

Lord God,
I want to follow Christ –
Please show me
What to do.

      Take up your cross;
      Love everyone;
      Forgive those
      Who hurt you.

1. We have hurt others

Heal them, Lord,
The people we have damaged.

Heal them, Lord,
Until they can forgive.

Heal them, Lord,
Till they no longer hate us.

Heal us, Lord,
So all may fully live.

2. Others have hurt us

Heal us, Lord,
Till we love those who’ve hurt us.

Heal us, Lord,
Until we can forgive.

Heal us, Lord,
Till we no longer hate them.

Heal us, Lord,
So all may fully live.

Inner peace

Lord,

We long so much
For inner peace,
But how is this great treasure
To be won?

It’s learned through growing
More and more like Jesus;
It’s gained by always following
Your Son.

For inner peace is found
Through saying sorry
When we hurt other people –
As we will,

And always, Lord, forgiving
Those who hurt us,
Even when this seems
A bitter pill.

Peace also grows through
Being kind to others,
Always glad to walk
The extra mile;

And also, Lord, through loving
Those who hate us,
And praying for them daily,
With a smile.

In sum, we will find inner peace
Through love, Lord,
By serving you in others
Every day;

Rejoicing in your presence
Deep within us,
And always making time to praise,
And pray.

Oneness

Lord,

We know that after death
All souls are one with you,
And yet we fail to grasp that here, in life,
The same is true.

So how can we hate others, Lord,
Ignore, exploit, condemn,
When they are one with us, and we, like you,
Are one with them?

When we look down on others, Lord,
And try to shut them out,
This proves we do not love ourselves,
Whatever words we spout.

All concepts of me, us and them,
Are ignorant and blind,
For we are one with you, Lord God,
And with all humankind.

Forgive us, Lord; we are ashamed.
Please cleanse us with your blood;
And help us all to follow you,
By offering your love.
